Chris Gee, part of the Sycons Solar DJ team shows off what he calls his “Solar Mobile Hi-Def Trekking/Mountaineering video Solution,” pairing the Fuse 4W with his NorthFace Adventure Pack. We like how Chris has secured the Fuse snugly up against the NorthFace bag for now wiggle – Chris is ready to catch whatever sun is available. RIP – Flip Cameras, we sure liked you.

Chris’s set up raises a question I have, but have not yet tested. I have a 4W Fuse which I use when cycle touring. It gets strapped to the top of a panier more or less parallel to the ground. Works OK.

Would, when back packing, strapping the Fuse to the top of the pack get more light than when strapped on the back of the bag as shown?

I know a lot is dependent on route orientation to the sun as well.

Hi Ben, if you’re able to strap to the top of the bag, my guess is that you’d probably get more direct light. It isn’t always easy to strap things securely up there though!
