We love all things photography here at Voltaic and want to help all you shutterbugs out there keep your digital cameras powered through the day with clean, renewable solar energy. We’re expanding our selection of solar camera charging cradles based on new and popular models. To help us get an idea of what you’re most likely to be shooting with, we turned to Flickr for stats on the most popular brands and cameras by use. To help you find out which battery charging cradle you’ll need to power your camera from solar, we dug through the manufacturer sites to find out which battery those cameras use. Below are the top 50 cameras from the top 7 brands and the battery they use (sorted by average daily users on Flickr).
Our next to-do is to make sure we have all those cradles in stock. We have most of the Canons and Nikons but were short on Panasonic and Sony cradles. Click here to learn more about solar charging digital cameras. Click here to see the camera cradles we have in stock.

Hi
I have a Panasonic GX7 it uses the battery BLG10. Do you have a cradle to allow me to charge from one of your products.
Thanks
Joseph
Hi Joseph,
We don’t have that in stock but will look into getting it. We haven’t tested these for quality, but both of these are likely to work with our systems.
If you get one of our laptop systems (the charger needs 12V), you can get this one: http://www.amazon.com/Wasabi-Power-Panasonic-DMW-BLG10-DMC-LX100/dp/B005NDK4BY/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1464873029&sr=8-5&keywords=blg10+charger
Here’s one that works from USB and is compatible with any of our systems: http://www.amazon.com/DSTE-Panasonic-DMW-BLE9E-DMW-BLG10-DMW-BLH7/dp/B01DPCJ2JY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1464873089&sr=8-1&keywords=blg10+charger+usb
Plz get a cradle for the Nikon D4. That will be amazing. Cradle should match the MH26, battery model is EN-EL18. Thanks.
Hi Umar,
We keep looking into options but haven’t found one we like yet. The issue is that the EN-EL18 is an 11.1V battery vs 7.4 for most DSLRs. Thanks for encouraging us to keep pushing on this problem.
Hello, I recently purchased the EOS Cannon (Rebel) SL1 DSLR camera for my bicycle touring. I believe the battery is an LP-E12 battery 7.2v. I don’t see that number in your list of cradles. Do you have an option to charge this battery?
Thanks for your help.
Alan
Hi Alan – thanks for letting us know of our oversight. We added that option and should be able to ship out on Friday or next Monday.
Hi ! I have a Pentax K10D with a D-LI50 7.4v 1550mAh = Minolta NP 400. Do you have a solar charging solution for this camera and battery?

I have a Pentax Optio W20 camera with a D-LI8 Battery. Do you have a solar charging solution for this camera and battery?
Thanks
Rick
Hi Rick,
We don’t have this charger at the moment, but you can get this cradle and it will most likely work: http://www.amazon.com/ABC-Products%C2%AE-DSLR-A230-DSC-HX100V-DSC-HX200V/dp/B0094W51TK/ref=sr_1_11?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1376918040&sr=1-11&keywords=np-40+charger
If you are getting one of our 4 Watt systems (Amp, Fuse 4W, OffGrid), you also need our 3511-3513 adapter – http://secure.voltaicsystems.com/cgi-bin/UCEditor?merchantId=VOLTA&ADD=3511-3513. Please read here for the proper setup: https://www.voltaicsystems.com/camera
If you are getting a larger laptop system (Fuse 10W, Array, Generator), you don’t need any additional adapters.
What charging solution will work with a Nikon D4? It uses the EN-EL18 battery.
Heading to Everest Base Camp and am trying to plan on several nights of shooting extended astro-photography series – 2,000 to 3,000 consecutive images.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Hi Chris,
There are no DC chargers that we know of for the EN-EL18 battery. It seems that you need to use the wall charger that comes with the battery and connect that to an inverter and the inverter to a battery. Do you have something like this: http://www.samys.com/p/Battery-Chargers–Accessories/27059/MH-26-Battery-Charger-for-EN-EL18-Battery/107138.html?origin=product-search&gclid=COK9l4KErLYCFdFT4AoddWEA5Q?
If so, what does it say as the output? Should be something like 18V, 2A.
Hi!
I have a Nikon d7000, and its battery is EN-EL15 (7.0V, 1900mA, 14Wh).
I’ve read your descriptions, however, I cannot get which one should I have to buy.
I wonder which one of your product is suitable for my nikon. I am planning 1 month trip in Lapland, Sweden.
Thanks.
Best wishes,
Jeong Hong
You should get the EN-EL15 cradle here: https://www.voltaicsystems.com/camera
As per which charger, it depends on how often you want to charge up the battery. If every two days or so, I think the Fuse 4W would be fine, if you’re looking to recharge every day (or more than once), I would upgrade to the Spark or Fuse 10W.

https://www.voltaicsystems.com/fuse10w (available again in about 5 days)
https://www.voltaicsystems.com/spark (available again in about 10 days)

Hi,
I am from the netherlands.
I am in the proces of buying a new camera.
The Olympus TG-2 this has the LI-90B Lithium-ion battery.
I don’t see this one in your list.
When you have this cradle it’s more likely I will buy your solar Charging system.
Hi Menno,
Thanks for your interest in Voltaic. Its the same cradle as the LI-50B. We will try and make this clearer on the site… Jeff
I have just bought a new camera last summer. It is great for backpacking, water proof, shock proof, crush proof, and cold proof. There was only one thing, a rechargeable battery. I love this in theory, cheaper and better for the environment. One problem having enough power throughout my backpacking trips. (1 week to 3 weeks) I have a Pentax WG 2 camera. Is there any charger that is compatible with the solar charger?
Hi,
You can use the Li-50B charger (confirm that is the model number on the battery inside your camera) – you can connect the battery to any of our solar chargers with the LI-50B cradle – https://www.voltaicsystems.com/solar-camera-charger.shtml#general3
Thanks,
Jeff
I have a canon power shot A3400 and it has a NB-11L battery. Do you have a charger that will work with that?
Hi Whitney – any of our solar chargers will work with that camera. You will need:
a) Fuse 4W, Amp, Switch, Converter, OffGrid or any of our 4 Watt chargers
b) A car charger cradle like this one: http://www.amazon.com/eForCity-Compact-Battery-Charger-NB-11L/dp/B0083DV9CE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1356527588&sr=8-3&keywords=nb-11+charger
c) To connect to the cradle, you need either our 3511-3513 adapter or our 3511-car charger socket
http://secure.voltaicsystems.com/cgi-bin/UCEditor?merchantId=VOLTA&ADD=3511-CarSocket
http://secure.voltaicsystems.com/cgi-bin/UCEditor?merchantId=VOLTA&ADD=3511-3513
Also, we recommend you read this: https://www.voltaicsystems.com/camera
Thanks,
Jeff
I have an Olympus OM-D EM5 that takes a BLN1 battery. Do have a cradle that will work?
Hi Tom,
We don’t, but this one will work: http://www.amazon.com/eForCity-Compact-Battery-Charger-Olympus/dp/B008EHZ5DS/ref=sr_1_20?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1346763053&sr=1-20&keywords=bln-1+charger
Remember to get our 3.5×1.1 – 3.5×1.3mm adapter to connect from our charger to the cradle. You can get it here: https://www.voltaicsystems.com/adapters.shtml#phone

I have a canon XA10 video camera with a 7.4V Lithium battery. Is there a charger available for it and which Solar Charger would i need to work with this and give a complete charge? Thankyou
Hi Beth,
There are lots of cradles available for the XA10 – here’s one that would work -http://www.amazon.com/BP-819-BP-827-Compatible-Battery-Charger/dp/B003CQBS8M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1344443817&sr=8-1&keywords=bp808+charger
Does the back of your battery say 890mAH? If so, any of our chargers would work – the Fuse 4W is the most popular. Read more about camera charging here: https://www.voltaicsystems.com/camera
Jeff
I have a Fujifilm XP. What adapter would it use? Thanks!
Hi Janine,
What are the digits after the XP? 50? 20? Better yet, can you remove the battery and tell us what ID is on the battery? Should be something like NP-45.
/jeff
It is a lithium ion battery pack.
It says NP-45A 3.7V, 700mAh (min.) and typ. 720mAh, 2.6Wh
Thanks!
Hi Janine,
It is the same cradle as the Olympus LI-40B, see here: https://www.voltaicsystems.com/camera (a bit confusing, but at least two manufacturers have used the same battery size for once!)
Thanks,
Jeff
Hi:
I have a Panasonic DMC-ZS7 camera. The charger says it is a DE-A65. The battery says DMW-BCG10PP. Don’t see any cradles for my camera. Am I out of luck when it comes to using your product?
Hi Blair,
You’re not out of luck, you can get this cradle: http://www.amazon.com/Replacement-DMW-BCG10-DMW-BCG10E-DMW-BCG10PP-Panasonic/dp/B003SG0BSY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1336567916&sr=8-3
Plus get our 3.5×1.3mm adapter in our optional phone adapter section here: https://www.voltaicsystems.com/adapters.shtml#phone This will allow you to connect from the solar panel to the camera cradle.
Thanks,
Jeff
I use a Sanyo Xacti VPC-WH1 camera. Which back pack solar panel adapter for loading the battery do I need?
Next to that I would also like to be able to charge the battery of a still camera (Traveller UW 8 Outdoor-Sports) which uses an external battery charger. Same question here again: which back pack solar panel adapter do I need for this?
Both cameras were purchased for use in Europe.
Thank you in advance.
Best wishes,
Freija Michiels
