Smallbean is down in Tanzania kicking off its’ Citizen Archivist Project and it seems that our Generator solar panels are working well to charge their electronics. Smallbean trains participants to document life in their communities, while at the same time learning computing skills.
Our solar panel is one part of the MobileCAP which includes “efficient laptop, documentary tools (cameras and voice recorders), a solar power source, and Internet connectivity.”
We happen to really like the MobileCAP logo:
We always encourage people to extensively test their equipment before traveling, especially if they’re not using our battery (Smallbean is charging a lead acid battery) and it seems like it paid off in this case. From their Executive Director, Sean Hewens “I’ve been tinkering with for the last two months. And….it works! Like a charm. I LOVE THE AFRICAN SUN! This is totally nerdy, but after spending months and months testing solar systems in Boston (in June and July mind you, definitely the best time to be testing anything solar in Boston) it is amazing to get the panels to Kenya and watch how well they work with the equatorial sun in the house!”
