National Geographic Explorer and filmmaker Ricky Qi and team have been documenting China’s last matriarchal society for the last two years and is continuing in 2014 with several expeditions.

The Moso live along the shores of Lake Lugu, “a rickety six hour bus ride (previously eight before the roads were completed) through seemingly endless mountain ranges that threaten to wind, dip, and climb their way into the psyches of even the most seasoned travelers.”

One of the issues in filming in the region is power. We provided Ricky with a 16 Watt Solar Charger Kit to power his MacBook and digital cameras.
