Another day, another proprietary charging cable. The new Vaio Flip 13 and Tap 11 cables look like this:
Since there are no third party adapters for this plug yet, a customer of ours figured out an elegant way to use his OEM Sony cable to charge his laptop from AC and our V72 laptop battery . He can also charge the V72 from his OEM cable. The key to the solution was splitting the wire between the brick and the adapter and adding this 5.5×2.5mm barrel plug and jack. Simple and elegant. Thanks to Roger for sharing.
That’s an awesome hack Roger!
I am seriously considering doing this myself…but I was wondering if there are any instructions available?
I’m a layman when it comes to electrical wiring, and I would like to do this safely. Thanks!
Hi Aron,
No details on this one, but it will be very similar to our hack for the Lenovo X1 – https://blog.voltaicsystems.com/adapter-for-lenovo-carbon-x1/

Just a tip for Roger: On the 5.5 x 2.5mm barrel plug, if you put a short piece of heat shrink tubing where the cable enters the plug and partially covering the jack housing as well, it will serve as a fine strain relief and keep dirt out. Nice work!
